Support Myanmar with Love ,愛のサポートミャンマー (ENGLISH AND JAPANESE)

Strong tropical cyclone “Nargis” made landfall in Myanmar on May 3rd. Over a short weekend, roughly 20,000 lives perished, making this the worst disaster in Myanmar in the past 17 years. Tzu Chi Foundation volunteers from Yangon, and the neighboring countries, Malaysia, Thailand, and Taiwan, were dispatched to provide aid. Stocked with 30,000 blankets made from recycled plastic bottles, over 1,000 tents, instant noodle, medical supplies, and body bags, Tzu Chi is prepared to carry out its first wave of relief distributions. In support of the relief efforts, the “Support Myanmar with Love” fundraising campaign in the United States will launch beginning on May 11th.
The effect of natural disasters on Earth can be catastrophic. In 1991, 130,000 lives were lost in the Bangladesh flood; in 1998, Hurricane Mitchell brought havoc to South America; in December 2004, Tsunami in Southeast Asia wiped out countless villages and lives; in August 2005, Hurricane Katrina devastated New Orleans and neighboring cities; and in October 2003 and 2007, Southern California wildfires affected over a million lives. Even to this day people are still recovering from these terrible tragedies. These seemingly incessant waves of disasters around the world all suggest that the Earth is in peril.
Fortunately, there is Great Love everywhere. In response to the natural disasters, Tzu Chi initiated numerous fundraising campaigns around the world to provide the survivors with aid. The money and supplies raised from the campaigns symbolized the love and compassion from people around the world.
Fortune and misfortune are two sides of a coin. Master Cheng Yen, the founder of Tzu Chi Foundation, constantly urges everyone to awaken to the lessons learned from these disasters. Upon witnessing the suffering of others, people should unite together and reach out to help, and at the same time be content of own good fortune.
