The officials said the meeting between UN envoy Ibrahim Gambari and the Nobel Peace prize laureate Suu Kyi was taking place Monday at a state guest house. Suu Kyi was taken to the guest house from the villa in the Myanmar capital where she is under house arrest.
The officials declined to give their names because they were not authorized to speak to the press.
It is Gambari's seventh trip to Myanmar and comes amid criticism that he has failed to produce significant results.
Gambari told diplomats earlier that his objectives are to urge the release of political prisoners, discuss the country's ailing economy and revive a dialogue between Suu Kyi and the junta. - AP
